Bread has been baking for Durango for over 20 years, and its downtown café is a lovely place to start the day. You’ll find it on East 8th Street, just off Main Avenue, where the smell of fresh bread and a hot cup of coffee welcome you in. It’s a favourite with locals and visitors alike.
This is an artisan-style bakery, so the counter changes with the seasons. Daily loaves include sourdough, baguettes and the Campagne, a whole wheat and sourdough blend, with specials such as potato sage, Bavarian rye and asiago cheese on set days. There are buttery croissants, pain au chocolat, cinnamon rolls, scones and cookies, plus a full espresso bar.
If you’d like to sit down, the downtown café also serves breakfast and lunch. Think thin Belgian waffles, toast on the Campagne loaf topped with avocado or a poached egg, and sandwiches such as turkey with cranberry chipotle chutney or ham and brie on a seeded baguette. There are gluten-free treats too.
Bread opens every day from 7am. Come early for the best choice of pastries and loaves, as favourites can sell out. It’s also a great place to pick up picnic supplies before a day exploring Durango your way.
