Some of the best meals in Durango come out of a food truck, and Chalkboard Kitchen proves it. It’s parked behind Anarchy Brewing Co. on East 8th Avenue, and its motto is “Comfort Food Elevated”. That means familiar favourites made with a bit of flair and plenty of flavour.
The sandwiches are the reason to come. Try The Notorious P.I.G., a fried pork tenderloin with melted raclette and chermoula aioli, or The ODB, a crispy fried chicken thigh finished with a punchy “wu tang” sauce. The Chalkboard Chicken Sandwich, layered with prosciutto and creamy burrata, is a firm favourite. Add truffle fries or blistered shishito peppers on the side. There are gluten-free options too.
It’s a relaxed, grab-a-seat-and-settle-in kind of place. Order your food, get a local craft beer from the brewery next door, and enjoy an easy evening out after a day on the trails or the river.
The truck opens from 4pm Wednesday and Thursday and from 3pm Friday to Sunday, serving until 8:30pm. Come early on weekends, when it gets busy. If you’d rather eat back at your stay, call ahead for a to-go order.
