White Rabbit Books & Curiosities

Just along the Animas River Trail from The Powerhouse, White Rabbit Books & Curiosities is one of Durango’s most charming little finds and a lovely next stop on a family day out. Named as a nod to the whimsical, this tiny independent bookshop has been a favourite by the river for more than a decade.

Inside, carefully curated used and new books fill every nook, alongside whimsical art, hand-blown glass and all sorts of curiosities. It’s a wonderful place for young explorers to hunt for a treasure of their own, though with delicate glass on display, it’s best to keep little hands close.

The shop itself is only around 150 square feet, but it spills out into its much-loved garden, which hosts events and gatherings through the year and makes a peaceful spot to pause by the water. You’ll find it at 128 West 14th Street, tucked right beside the river trail.

White Rabbit usually opens Wednesday to Sunday from late morning until late afternoon and closes on Mondays and Tuesdays, so it’s worth checking its Facebook page before you go. Pick out a new bedtime story, then settle in and experience Durango your way.
